One of Belgium’s most famous ales, Brugse Zot Blonde is a golden, hazy blonde beer with a rich foam collar and fruity flavouring. Brewed according to a unique and traditional recipe, the beer is made with four different malts and two aromatic varieties of hop. There are no short cuts in the brewing process, and De Halve Maan use only the finest ingredients in their Bruges town centre brewery.
Hints of citrus and a fruity yet spicy bouquet are quite apparent. Caramel, brown sugar, and herbal aromas are also present. On the palette, it’s a medium-bodied, complex blonde with a sweet malty hoppy character, and subtle carbonation. The traditional yeast gives a fruity, almost plumy flavour. This then leads to a crisp, clean, dry finish, with little bitterness.
This Belgium blonde ale enjoys a secondary fermentation in the bottle, leading to a long shelf life, and the long maturation improves the beer as it sits.
In all, Brugse Zot Blonde is superb, well-balanced easy drinking beer, which is deceptively light. It’s easy to forget this Belgium classic come with a hefty 6% ABV!
