The ‘Black Rock’ is a famous marker for sailors on the rocky southern Irish coast close to the Dungarvan Brewing Co. Just as famous in the modern era is Dungarvan’s full-flavoured, smooth, black Irish stout. Using a traditional recipe and roasted barley, this stout hits the palette with hints of roasted malts, chocolate, aniseed, hops, coffee, and vanilla.
As one would expect from a deep-rooted, traditional brewing process, the stout is dry, unfiltered, unpasteurised, and bottle-conditioned. At just 4.3% ABV, Black Rock is a medium-bodied very drinkable stout, with light carbonation and a smooth mouthfeel. A beautiful tan head completes the picture.
Like a good wine, you can expect to find a little harmless sediment in the base of the bottle. Remember to store upright and pour carefully. With such a full flavour, this stout is best enjoyed at room temperature to fully release its complexity.
Black Rock Stout was awarded the bronze medal in the International Brewing Awards back in 2011, only one year after Dungarvan Brewing Co. was founded. What took so long!
