Black Betty Black IPA is a big, beautiful contradiction. It’s jet black, but light and hoppy. The London brewers took a big IPA and laced it with undertones of slight roast and aniseed using German Carafa malts. This created the dark colour. The brew was blended with strong tropical aromas from pacific west coast hops. A touch of roasted malt adds a sweet chocolate and coffee flavour.
On pouring, the light tan head presents as thick and foamy. On the palette, it’s a full-sized, roasted, hoppy IPA, with hints of coffee, liquorice and caramel sweetness. The malty flavours are perfectly balanced with a light, bitter finish and a suggestion of pineapple. This complex beer has a medium body, soft texture, and gentle carbonation.
Beavertown’s marriage of hops and German malt combine to make Black Betty IPA a fabulous choice for adventurous drinkers looking for a full-bodied beer. And for a 7.4% IPA, it’s exceptionally drinkable.
