Beers from Stone Brewing Escondido

Last month, we released three new beers from Stone Brewing Escondido: Americano Stout, Bastard’s Midnight Brunch and Matt’s Burning Rosids. We swapped our morning coffee for a mug of Americano Stout, paid tribute to beloved Stone brewer with Matt’s Burning Rosids, and feasted on the dark and decadent flavour of Bastard’s Midnight Brunch. Read: we enjoyed the hell out of these beers, and we hope you did too.

Now that we’ve had a chance to fill our faces, we think it’s time for more. Like the last round, these Stone Special Releases are very limited, and are only available in larger format bottles: 650ml and 750ml. They’re perfect for sharing with–or lording over–a friend.

Three new beers are hitting shops this week and they should all find their home on shelves by mid December: Imperial Russian Stout, Bitter Chocolate Oatmeal Stout and Enjoy After 4.20.17. Descriptions of each from the brewery are available below. Keep your eyes peeled for these special bottles, and stay tuned for new releases.

Style: Imperial Stout

ABV: 10.8%

Stone Imperial Russian Stout is so thick, rich and, well, sinful, you might worry that you’ll be doomed to the fiery pits just for thinking about a sip. Rest assured, however, that even though this seemingly pernicious brew is indeed as black as sin, we guarantee that no actual sin was committed in making it…you’ll have to add that on your own. This massive and intensely aromatic beer abounds with notes of chocolate, coffee, black currants, anise and roastiness, and its heavy palate is nothing to be trifled with. Watch the video.

Stone Brewing 12th Anniversary Bitter Chocolate Oatmeal Stout


Style: Imperial Stout

ABV: 9.2%

We are celebrating our 20th anniversary by releasing some fan-favourite beers from our 20-year history, using their original recipes and bottle art, and looking back on some highlights from the past on our way into a future filled with continued creativity, passion and a helluva lot of fun. When it came time to craft a commemorative offering for our 12th anniversary, we decided to trade in the bitterness of hops for the bitterness of unsweetened chocolate, and paired that with flaked oats. Featuring a thick, rich, roasty mouthfeel and chocolate-heavy flavours and aromas, this onyx-colored, malt-forward beauty became an instant classic that shares space on our liquid trophy case alongside our hop-focused fan favourites. Stone Brewing Enjoy After 4.20.17



Style: Brett IPA

ABV: 7%

This IPA is spiked at bottling with Brettanomyces, a wild yeast that, over time, brings about charmingly unpredictable complexities of spice, funk, acidity and more. The operative words in our beer-cellaring thesis are “over time.” For those of you who are impatient or like to experiment, the earliest we recommend sampling this beer is one year before the date on the label. The beer won’t be fully carbonated until that date. Ideally, you’ll want to cellar the beer up to-or beyond-the Enjoy After date to help it reach its full evolutionary potential. At that point, some facets of the Brett characteristics will have mellowed, while others will have become more profound; it all matures into a fascinating and delicious culmination. Individual results will vary…and that’s both the beauty and the intent behind this beer. Watch the video.
