In 2005, Tobias Emil Jensen and Tore Gynther had a deep discussion with their former school teacher, Mikkel Borg Bjergsø (Mikkeller) about how most Danish breweries were focusing on how long they had been brewing beers, rather than worrying about quality and new ways of doing things. They decided that the only way to turn things around was to start brewing beers themselves.
So Tobias and Tore formed the amateur brewery To Øl (Danish for Two Beers) in their school’s kitchen. In 2010, the pair decided that their brewery was ready to make its first commercial brew. When Mikkel heard about his old students, he insisted on making a collaborative brew between Mikkeller and To Øl, which became the first beer to be released from To Øl. Ever since then To Øl has continued to brew beers that push the boundaries of beer.
Today, To Øl is one of Europe’s most exciting gypsy breweries, making excellent ‘one-off’ beers from the facilities of another brewery. To Øl is dedicated to creating potent beers packed with flavour and character, beers with a real edge - like First Frontier, Raid Beer and Black Ball Porter. This is a brewery that prioritises quality over quantity and refuses to make concessions.
